The Legacy System came out of one of the team’s favorite parts of Hardcore: watching players constantly level and keep the world active. Forever wants that energy without the permanent-death stakes. Legacy rewards players for starting the journey again.
Points and challenges
Players earn Legacy Points by completing Legacy Challenges, which Blizzard describes as goals such as leveling a specific class or reaching a particular skill milestone. The challenges are meant to complement the existing journey rather than push players into disconnected tasks.
Points are shared across all characters, but each character spends them separately in its own trees. That lets alt-heavy players earn points across many challenges while a single-character player dives deeper into one category.
The three trees
At launch, Legacy Trees begin with Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. Examples from the panel:
- Adventure has “Well Rested,” increasing rested experience gains and the rested experience cap.
- Professions has “Bountiful Harvest,” increasing materials from mining, herbalism or skinning.
- Resourcefulness has “Reagent Economy,” removing reagent requirements from class abilities.
Caps and the reward track
Each character can spend up to 16 points in its Legacy Trees at launch. The cap keeps players from feeling pressure to do everything and lets new players avoid falling too far behind. Players can keep completing challenges beyond that limit and earn up to 65 Legacy Points at the start.
Extra accomplishments feed the Legacy Reward Track, which unlocks cosmetic and prestige rewards such as the Spectral Bear Cub with no competitive gameplay advantage.
Forever also adopts the Burning Crusade-style mount cost, shifting the up-front mount cost into training and granting a mount when the riding skill is learned.
Blizzard says the system will grow with new challenges, perks, spending options, higher caps and new trees over time. The panel does not publish the full list of 65 points’ challenges, the reward track’s complete contents, or every tree’s talents.
